CHINA NATIONAL CHAPTER

The Chinese Chapter of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (CCIHPBA) dates back to August 2003, when Academician Meng-chao Wu and Prof. Xiao-ping Chen took part in the 7th Biennial Congress of the Asian Soceity of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery (ASHPBS) in India. During the meeting, Prof. Chen consulted with Academician Wu on the idea of establishing a national chapter of the IHPBA and Wu was sympathetic to the idea. After returning to China, Chen further solicited opinions from all sides, including Academician Qiu Fazu, officials of the Chinese Surgical Association such as Prof. Du Ruyu, Zhu Yu, Leng Xisheng, and Zhao Yupei, experts in the field of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery like Academician Huang Zhiqiang, Tang Zhaoyou, and Zhen Shushen, and experts in such related fields as Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Radiology. Chen’s idea gained wide support. Then, Chen expressed the idea to Academician Joseph Wan-yee Lau, the then President of the IHPBA and formally submitted the application to the IHPBA Executive Secretariat. In September the same year, the establishment of the Chinese Chapter of the International Hepato- Pancreato- Biliary Association was approved by the IHPBA.
